GILES

The day Ian Gillespy aka Giles left Manchester was a sad day for all, with several years of DJ and production experience amassed in the city Ian's built up quite a reputation in the drum and bass and dubstep community. As well as smashing dance floors at internationally acclaimed events such as Religion, Pangaea and Hit n Run, Giles co-runs the University of Manchester Drum n Bass society which provides a safe haven for Drum n Bass heads from all Manchester based universities. In conjunction with UMDNB Giles also put on Elements - a weekly drum n bass night showcasing up and coming local DJs and supporting the local scene from the roots.

Good Vibes Mix by Giles

Ian's productions have come leaps and bounds since I first heard his tunes. Starting off in drum n bass, Giles has progressed through dubstep to future garage and continues to push the boundaries of genres to create tastefully deep sounds which leave you anticipating his next upload. Giles's influences include some real hard-hitters, ranging from High Contrast, London Elektricity, Random Movement, Marky, Bcee and Lomax, The Upbeats, Cern, Break, State of Mind, to MJ Cole, Joy Orbison, Burial and Submerse.

Verses by Giles

From his home in Cardiff Ian continues to make big beats and play out whenever possible so unfortunately you won't be hearing him in Manchester any time soon. Make sure you check out his soundcloud for updates and if you're interested what Giles is like in action you can download his mix for S • W • C Sessions HERE.

Noisia – Alpha Centauri (Datsik & Excision remix)

Whether you prefer your bangers or anthems, this is one tune that you will not be able to avoid over the next few months. The track in question is the cutting remix of Noisia’s epic track ‘Alpha Centauri.’ This is the recent offering from the mighty Datsik and Excision collaboration. Both are artists who’ve flooded the UK music scene with heavy grooves and hostile bass lines over the past couple of years. This is the tenth release that these guys have shared, and with the blistering remix of Apex’s ’Nowhere to run’ being on that list too, it seems like the collaboration is still going strong. This track is truly worthy of all those ‘dirtier than kissing your Mum when you’re 80’ youtube quotes, check it out…

FORTUNE

James Montrose aka Fortune is a Manchester based artist and the co-owner of promotion collective Foundation. His beats stand-alone as a fresh and forward thinking form of drum & bass, in the same vein as artists such as dBridge and Alix Perez. Fortune's dubstep follows in a similar style, providing a fine example of the garage-based 140bpm sound done so well by north-westeners. The events put on by Jim and partner BOOKS have also made waves in the local scene, playing host to massive artists such as Icicle and Loxy and bringing some deep rolling high grade bass sounds to packed out crowds. We'll be having Fortune along soon on the S • W • C Sessions so stay locked in for what's set to be one of the many highlights we endeavor to bring you every week.

Heavy Rain vs. Foundation 05/11/10

FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE

If you're in or around Manchester this Friday for bonfire night, make sure you head down to The Roadhouse to see S • W • C residents tear up the dance at Heavy Rain vs. Foundation. Only a month ago Heavy Rain brought TUNNIDGE and V.I.V.E.K to the same venue, and they're back again this month offering WACHS LYRICAL for only £1.00 on the door.

As well as the headline act, drum and bass heads of the Foundation collective will be going head to head with Heavy Rain residents which is sure to be an interesting mash up of styles and genres to fill one of Manchester's most popular clubs. As well as the Friday event, remember you catch the Heavy Rain gang every Tuesday at Redrum in Fallowfield, more details HERE.

See you Friday for this bargain of a line-up, remember to arrive early to avoid dissapointment.

The productions of local artist Phil Keary rank as some of the best I've heard to come out of Manchester in my time here. Not confined to one genre, West Un Dubs produces a variety of Dubstep, Drum n Bass, Jungle and Garage music, all tactfully compiled on Reason with a style that suits all ears. We featured the track 'It's Over' on last Wednesday's show as part of our up and coming music feature and hopefully we'll have more exclusives from Phil in the future. You can check out more from the links below; subscribe or add West Un Dubs as a friend to keep updated with dubs fresh off the press.

HIT&RUN 27/09/10

Hit & Run is one of Manchester's most popular weekly Dubstep, DNB and Hip Hop nights, bringing a varied selection of artists to FAC 251. Last week they showcased DJs like James Blake, Redlight, Alix Perez, Icicle, SBTRKT and more.

This monday Hit & Run are bringing one half of the legendary DMZ, MALA to headline together with CAMO + KROOKED, RIZ MC, DEADBOY, DC BREAKS and JAKES backed with local talent and friend of S • W • C, GILES. Mala's not one to disappoint and we're looking forward to hearing some fresh dubs from him again. Heard good things about Deadboy and it's Camo + Krooked's Manchester debut so don't miss out. Last week was a sell out so we've got our tickets, get them from Gaff's, Eastern Bloc or Skiddle. Wonderful.
